Every now and then you get to do something you truly love. January 31st at 8:45pm is going to be one of those nights. The boys that make up “The Lion’s Share” are my best friends and Brian Elmquist was a groomsmen in my wedding. On top of all that Rockwood Music Hall is my favorite place to play in the Universe. This will be the closest thing to having a family band that I will ever experience. This show will be special to say the least. Zach Williams “Story Time” Album Release Show June 9th

For the past few months we have been In the studio with one thing in mind.. To make a record that clearly represents the music that all of you have helped us create. It has been several years since I have even tried to record a song. Just the feeling of “this is it” scared me. Mainly because each one of our shows has a fresh expression. Each time we get together with a group of listeners another moment that had never been made was being create. The thought of finalizing these tunes struck fear in my heart.

Now that we are finished and I sit and listen to the album as a whole I can’t help but think that it’s just like coming to a show. The stories, the highs and lows, the spirit of experiancial instrumentation, the screams, the wispers and the motivation is all there. We actually just ended up capturing beautiful moments of time and packaged them in a nice little case.

I couldn’t be happier with the final result. I am so grateful for all of the people who believe in this music. I hear these songs and I think of you. I am a blessed man. I can’t wait for our Album Release Show! I hope we can all get together and celebrate this special moment and look forward to creating more.

The Band

The band is the true talent behind the music. With the lock down groove that can only be found in a brotherly love. The guitar player Rob and the drummer Greg keep the show on the tracks. The bass player Zack Lober is a fella that has been playing with the two brothers for the past 10 years. Eddy Bishai comes from one of the most musically celibrated families in the city and has the chops to back it up. All of the band member are very fancy and have their masters in music from places like NYU, Manhattan School of Music, and some strange music school in Canada. Joely Pittman is a southern bell that has a smile that will light up a room and a voice that will scare you if your not ready for it. Greg Ritchie: (drums) a rootsy and eccentric movement that will make you cry
Zack Lober: (Bass) a solid foundation of dark and light soul that can only be found in Canada
Rob Ritchie: (guitar) a driving ambition of creativity and tactfullness that should be boxed up and shipped to every home in the world
Eddie Bishai:(Piano) a banging river style piano that can only be truly experienced in a dark room
Joely Pittman: (vocals) a voice that can knock a wall down and harmonies that will remind you what home should feel like.

99 problems but a band ain’t one

Several months ago I said goodbye to music making. The city was eating me alive. My wife mentioned to me that music makes her happy. My friends were pissed off and told me to get over myself. I hadn’t written a song worth talking about since I lived in NYC. Then one night I walked down to a little spot known as Bar 4. The lyrics in this place filled my soul with hope and calmed my spirit to the core. Tom Hayes was the first fella that I heard. As he sang a song that told about his fathers death in Ireland I sat back to take in the emotion of every strum. then Mike Grubs got up and sang “War Sweater” then Paula, the Matt Singer, then Austin, then Kevin, then Tanya, then Jesse, then Paul, the Sean, then Chelsea, then Steve, the Ivan and the lyrics ran deeper and deeper. The room was filled with encouragement and discipline. The songs that were coming out of this invorement were true. “have a child and give it a name then it changes”,” I guess he left me more then these scars over my knees”, “I always feel empty when its over”,.. all these lyrics were starting to be apart of who I was in a wierd way. So I started going to Bar 4 often and getting to know the beautiful souls that hang out there. It single handedly lead me back into writing and singing. I then met some wonderful fellas to play with. Zack Lober is a bass player whose apartment burned down the first two weeks that he lived in the city. He has this wonderful ability to look at the big picture of a rehearsal and take into a cognitive flowing peace of time. Greg Ritchie is a drummer who lived with Zack when the apartment burned down and the only thing that made it out was his drums.. this is why the simbals that he plays looks so narly. Rob Ritchie lays down a mean guitar and can play anything under the sun. He teaches and lives in my neighborhood. these fella’s have made the music that we make worth while and have terribly kind to all of the friends and family that have come out to the shows.

Now we are emarking on a new recording… A 5 track EP that will probably change the way that I look at music forever. I can not wait until we see what is going to go down.

The music has definetely built a wonderful community.. Dusty Brown, Armistead, The Haven, The Gallery, Bar 4, all the Brooklyn peeps… I am so blessed to live in this city and have people that I love.
